ThinApp Helper

Not sure how useful this old app is to people but I noticed it was not available anymore from the developer CIS. Other sites only linked to the original dead website it was linked to an even older dead website.
Finally I found it on some tucked away Chinese site so I thought I'd share it to help keep it alive. I had never used it before so unsure if it's compatible with more recent versions of ThinApp.

The last version was 4.0.3.0

Firefox show more Top Sites

Well I took the plunge and updated to the latest Firefox (59.03) and so far I like it. Only reason I had not changed was because the multirow bookmarks addon was not compatible with the new version of Firefox. Will have to fight with my bookmarks until a good addon is available.

What I did not like though was the Top Sites page and the limit of 12. All that empty space was getting to me. Luckily I stumbled on some help to get more Top Sites showing.
Here's how it's done.

Enter the following into your address bar and hit enter
about:config

You will get a warning so to continue click "I accept the risk"

Scroll down until you find this bit,
browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.topSitesCount

Now change the 12 to something you want. I went with 18 for now.
Looks much better than the default 12.

It would be great to add more columns but I have not found a way yet.

Winreducer EX70

After getting Remix OS working on my tiny HP Mini 1004TU I realized it was not going to be an good alternative for it. Remix OS is quite good candy wise but ran horribly on the HP Mini.

I decided to go back to what I had on it, Windows 7 Ultimate, Then I found I never saved the image I created especially for the HP Mini. The SSD is only 8GB so I had reduced the size of the OS by ripping stuff out I did not need. Then the image had been put onto USB as the HP Mini has no optical drive.

I couldn't remember what I had used so ended up just going over all the options. Tried RT7Lite but had problems at the ISO creation stage. Looked at NTlite but found info that there was not much customization. Last I tried Winreducer EX70. What a great piece of software.

Main window

The first attempt was OK apart from some stuff I had taken out was going to cause issues later. The second attempt failed during installation as I had chosen Windows 7 starter and had removed all the Ultimate files. The third attempt I got right. It was a little bigger after installation (Just under 4GB) but I'm happy. Runs super fast even on 1GB of ram.

Options after clicking Start

After every section you will get this. A small price to pay for free software :)

After loading a folder or ISO you will get this window

When this window comes up, make sure to select the correct version you need and if its x86 or 64bit. There's nothing worse than spending ages going over and selecting stuff, making an image and installing to find you picked the wrong version. I learned my lesson about this.

Main widow for the reducing stage

Now this is where all the fun begins. Just be careful what you remove or disable. Lots of programs rely on other programs or multiple services. You need to do some research.

I did find a page in the forum where a member posts what is what but it's for an earlier version of Winreducer. Still helps a bit though.

The Winreducer site seems to have some errors in the HTML as the menus don't always function Here's some links to help you find it all.

The software is on the front page,

Make sure you read the tips that show when you hover the mouse cursor over an option.
If you take certain stuff out it will break Windows 7!

Have fun!
